This striking dining table from the 1970s embodies the quiet authority of Italian modern design, where sculptural form and material experimentation come together in a refined and balanced composition. Reflecting the creative spirit of the decade, the piece explores the interplay between glass, lacquer, and metal, resulting in a table that is both architectural and elegantly restrained.
At its centre, an elliptical pedestal rises in a rhythmic sequence of vertical wooden slats finished in soft cream lacquer. Between these elements, brass-toned metal strips introduce a warm contrast, their aged patina lending depth and character. The repetition of these vertical lines creates a subtle play of light and shadow, giving the base a dynamic yet composed presence. Above, an oval glass top appears to float effortlessly, its lightly tinted edge characteristic of the period, enhancing the table’s sense of transparency and lightness. A smaller laminated oval insert at the centre echoes the silhouette of the base, reinforcing the harmony of proportions and visual continuity.
