Designed by Josef Hoffmann and produced by Thonet in the early 1930s, the A 811/4 variant is a rare and elegantly restrained evolution of the iconic Prague Chair. This set of four exemplifies Hoffmann’s lifelong commitment to geometric clarity, material honesty, and refined construction — hallmarks of the Wiener Werkstätte movement applied to industrial production.
Manufactured under catalogue number A 811/4 in 1932, these chairs are crafted from dark lacquered beech wood. They retain their original structure and surface character, including a gently aged patina, while all four seats have been expertly refinished for comfort and longevity. The vertical slat backs and precisely curved rails create a subtle architectural rhythm that reflects Hoffmann’s unique ability to blend logic with lightness.
In very good condition, structurally sound and visually unified, the set offers a rare opportunity to own a complete group of early interwar dining chairs that speak equally to formal elegance and historical depth.
Perfect as a refined dining set or statement seating in a gallery, reading room, or cultural interior. Rare to find as a complete set.
