Extraordinary mid-century modern writing desk or bureau plat designed by John Vesey (American, 1924–1992), made in the USA in the 1960s. Executed in stainless steel with polished gilt bronze trim, it reinterprets French Louis XVI neoclassical elegance through a crisp, architectural modern lens. The desk is fronted by three drawers, opening to reveal a beautifully finished flame mahogany interior with a high-gloss surface, while the top is fitted with a black leather writing inset with embossed gilt borders. Sculptural yet highly functional, it brings Hollywood Regency glamour and refined craftsmanship to an office, library, or living space.
