A striking set of four handcrafted Zig-Zag chairs based on Gerrit Rietveld’s iconic 1930s design, executed in solid wood with a warm dark-stained finish. The chairs closely follow the celebrated cantilevered geometry, creating a sculptural silhouette from a sequence of angled wooden planes. Particularly distinctive is their exposed construction, incorporating slotted metal fasteners, recessed bolts, dovetailed connections and triangular wooden reinforcement blocks at the joints. Each backrest features the characteristic horizontal handhold, further emphasising the chairs’ architectural character. While clearly inspired by Rietveld’s Zig-Zag chair, their construction differs from documented examples produced by Gerard van de Groenekan. They are therefore offered as unattributed handcrafted examples after Gerrit Rietveld, rather than documented originals.
