Exceptional set of Charles dining chairs designed by Axel Einar Hjorth for Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Sweden during the 1920s. A pioneering figure in Swedish design, Hjorth masterfully combined classical elegance with emerging modernist principles, creating furniture that remains highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. Crafted in solid oak, the Charles chairs are distinguished by their architectural silhouettes, refined proportions, and impeccable craftsmanship. The robust construction is balanced by elegant detailing and a restrained decorative language characteristic of the Swedish Grace movement, a uniquely Scandinavian interpretation of Art Deco and Neoclassicism. The rich oak grain enhances the sculptural quality of the chairs, while their timeless design allows them to integrate effortlessly into both historic and contemporary interiors. Produced by the renowned Nordiska Kompaniet, these chairs represent an important chapter in Scandinavian design history and stand as enduring examples of early twentieth century Swedish furniture craftsmanship.
