An elegant pair of French Art Deco bookends dating from the 1930s, featuring finely sculpted birds of paradise in bronze and brass set upon black marble bases. The elongated, graceful forms of the birds capture the stylised approach to nature characteristic of the Art Deco period, while the contrast between polished metal and deep black marble creates a sophisticated architectural presence. Both decorative and functional, the bookends showcase the refined materials and craftsmanship associated with 1930s French design. Their compact proportions make them ideal for a bookshelf, desk or mantel, where they work equally well as practical objects or small decorative sculptures. A distinctive pair for collectors of French Art Deco and vintage animalier sculpture, combining elegant geometry with expressive natural forms.
