Designed by Friso Kramer in 1953 and manufactured by Asmeta Holland, this modular shelving system was created for the Dutch department store De Bijenkorf, following a commission initiated by Martin Visser. A striking example of postwar Dutch Modernist design, the unit features a rational geometric structure crafted from lacquered metal, with contrasting light yellow and dark blue-grey panels reflecting De Bijenkorf's original colour palette. Its clean architectural lines, functional modular construction and graphic composition embody Kramer's innovative approach to industrial furniture design. Combining practical storage with a bold visual presence, this vintage shelving unit is ideal for living rooms, offices or design-focused interiors. The structure is sturdy and stable, remaining in good vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with age and use.
