This large Berth wall light was produced by Kokosha Co., Ltd. in Japan in the early 1970s. Originally designed as maritime lighting for use beside a ship's bunk or berth, the fixture combines a sculptural patinated metal body with an opaline glass shade, producing a warm and atmospheric light. The original integrated on/off switch remains intact, reflecting its practical maritime purpose. Its protected construction, balanced proportions and restrained industrial form give the piece a distinctly Japanese minimalist character. Founded in Osaka in 1915, Kokosha specialized in ship lighting and electrical fixtures from 1947 onward, developing functional designs for the maritime industry. Today, the natural patina and understated geometry make this unusual large-scale wall lamp equally compelling as an architectural lighting piece in contemporary, minimalist or industrial interiors.
