The “Sunball” chair, designed by Günter Ferdinand Ris and Herbert Selldorf for Rosenthal in 1969, is a bold icon of Space Age design. Defined by its spherical, cocoon-like form, the chair creates an immersive seating experience that combines comfort with futuristic aesthetics. The sculptural shell encloses the sitter, offering a sense of privacy while maintaining a striking visual presence. Its smooth, geometric shape reflects the experimental spirit of late 1960s design, where innovation in form and materials was central. Both functional and highly expressive, the Sunball chair serves as a statement piece in modern, vintage, or avant-garde interiors. A rare and collectible design classic that captures the essence of the Space Age era.
