A striking Faia bergère armchair designed by Toni Cordero and manufactured by Sawaya and Moroni in Italy in 1993, embodying the provocative and unconventional spirit of late 20th-century Italian design. The sculptural composition combines enamelled metal, dyed rope, brass and upholstered fabric, bringing together contrasting materials within an expressive architectural form. Cordero reinterprets the traditional bergère through an imaginative contemporary language, balancing functionality with theatricality, irony and visual tension. The unexpected interplay of metalwork, tactile rope and soft upholstery reflects the designer’s distinctive approach to materials and his resistance to conventional stylistic boundaries. Both functional seating and a collectible design object, the Faia makes a compelling statement in Postmodern, eclectic and contemporary interiors. A sophisticated example of Cordero’s highly individual design vocabulary.
