A distinctive ceramic bull sculpture designed by Kurt Tschörner for Ruscha, the renowned German ceramics manufacturer. The stylized animal form combines a strong sculptural silhouette with the expressive glazing associated with post-war German studio ceramics. Its surface is covered with layered rusty brown glazes, creating a rich marbled effect with subtle tonal variations that emphasize the contours and volume of the bull. Tschörner’s simplified treatment of the figure gives the piece a distinctly modern character while retaining the strength and movement associated with its subject. Both a collectible example of German Mid-Century ceramic design and an expressive decorative object, the sculpture works particularly well within Modernist, Brutalist and eclectic interiors.
