A striking Brutalist cabinet by J. Batenburg, produced in Belgium during the 1970s and defined by its powerful architectural form and richly worked surface. Crafted from black stained oak, the cabinet presents a strong monochromatic silhouette, allowing the sculptural treatment of the doors to become the central decorative element. Their fronts are covered with hand-textured circular reliefs, arranged into a rhythmic pattern that creates depth and changing shadows across the dark timber. The combination of geometric structure, tactile craftsmanship and expressive material treatment reflects the experimental character of 1970s Belgian Brutalist furniture, where functional storage was often approached as sculpture. The deep black finish further emphasizes the relief work and gives the cabinet a commanding presence without diminishing the natural character of the oak. Both functional and highly decorative, it is a distinctive statement piece for Brutalist, Mid-Century Modern and contemporary interiors.
