This exceptional mid-18th-century French Provençal commode embodies the refined rustic elegance of the transition between the Louis XV and Louis XVI periods. Handcrafted from walnut, the chest features a rich, deep patina and beautifully preserved original wood surfaces. Its three spacious drawers are decorated with molded panels, foliate-carved details, ornate bronze bail handles and central escutcheons. A gracefully scalloped apron showcases a hand-carved shell, or coquille motif, characteristic of traditional Provençal cabinetmaking, while elegantly curved legs complete the sculptural silhouette. Each drawer offers an internal usable height of 16.5 cm, providing generous storage for textiles, personal belongings or household essentials. The drawers remain structurally sound and operate smoothly. Preserved in excellent antique condition, the commode displays only minor wear consistent with its age, retaining the warmth and authenticity of its historic walnut finish. A remarkable example of 18th-century French craftsmanship, equally suited to a traditional château interior or as a statement piece in a contemporary living space.
