This living space, designed by Kat Bell and James Drew of Argyle Design for their own Los Angeles residence, pairs Mediterranean Revival architectural bones with iconic 20th-century vintage furnishings. An Alessandro Becchi Anfibio convertible sofa in rich tan leather for Giovannetti (1970s) anchors the room alongside a striking pair of Pierre Paulin Ribbon chairs (Model F582) for Artifort (1966). A heavily carved mid-century tiled coffee table serves as a tactile focal point against textured plaster walls and exposed dark wood beams. Contemporary touches like the Isamu Noguchi Akari Floor Lamp BB3-33S and a graphic hooked-yarn tapestry by artist Hannah Epstein round out the layered, collector-driven aesthetic.
Framed by a Mediterranean plaster archway, this vignette showcases a post-modern console table by Ettore Sottsass crafted from stacked marble, mahogany, and lacquered wood geometric blocks. Above it hangs a vintage wrought-iron mirror bordered by minimalist stylized figurines. The arrangement is finished with a carved tribal sculpture and a studded ceramic bowl, seamlessly bridging bold Memphis-inspired postmodernism with primitive folk art.
Sculptural touches include a striped Gaetano Pesce Up 5 & 6 armchair and matching ottoman, a classic Panton Panthella floor lamp, and a woven rattan side table, while a grid of framed black-and-white photographic works adds a graphic element to the space.
This inviting sunlit space pairs warm Mediterranean architectural notes with iconic vintage and contemporary design objects. Anchoring the room is a expansive, channel-tufted vintage De Sede DS-600 "Non-Stop" modular sectional sofa in warm Cognac leather, wrapping fluidly beneath original exposed wood ceiling beams. At the center, a low, glass-topped square brass coffee table reflects light from the expansive steel casement windows. A sleek white Eero Saarinen Tulip side table for Knoll sits nearby, balancing sculptural modernism with the textural appeal of a bouclé-upholstered stool and a pair of plush, low-slung ottomans by Oscar Niemeyer. Illuminated softly by an Isamu Noguchi Akari paper lantern floor lamp, the living room is finished with a striking framed tapestry painting and whimsical contemporary accents—creating a rich, curatorial space grounded in timeless design.
Defined by Italian post-modernism and tactile vintage details, this dining room features Angelo Mangiarotti’s iconic 1970s 'Eros' marble dining table. A set of vintage French dining chairs—reupholstered in Dedar’s graphic 'Tiger Mountain' fabric in Graphite—adds a striking contrast to the heavy stone base. Overhead, a vintage brass-and-crystal palm frond chandelier illuminates a cluster of whimsical postmodern Ikea candleholders on the tabletop. Framed by exposed wood ceiling beams and sheer window drapery, the space delivers a thoughtful lesson in eclectic mid-century interior styling.
Centered on space-age curves and organic textures, this sunlit seating nook highlights an Olivier Mourgue 'Djinn' sofa for Airborne reupholstered in plush cream bouclé. Anna Castelli Ferrieri’s mid-century Kartell 'Componibili' unit offers functional Italian design alongside rustic accents, including a rustic turned-wood stool and a carved burl sphere. A curated wall display of vintage woven Tonga baskets completes the composition, layering global craft over mid-century modern furniture.
