This lounge chair was designed in the 1970s by Ate van Apeldoorn for Houtwerk Hattem and is a strong example of Dutch modern furniture rooted in craftsmanship and natural materials. Van Apeldoorn, founder of Houtwerk Hattem, was widely respected for his mastery of woodworking and his philosophy of honest construction, often working with solid pinewood as a defining material. This chair showcases the warm, expressive character of pine, allowing the natural grain and tone of the wood to play a central role in the design. The robust yet carefully balanced structure reflects Van Apeldoorn’s attention to detail and functional clarity. The chair retains its original brown fabric cushions, which add comfort while complementing the natural wood aesthetic. Preserved in original condition with only minor signs of wear, this lounge chair offers both visual warmth and everyday comfort, making it a timeless and authentic piece of 1970s Dutch design.
