The Uchiwa III lamp, designed by Ingo Maurer for M Design in 1973, is a distinctive example of sculptural lighting from the 1970s. Inspired by the traditional Japanese uchiwa fan, the design combines an organic silhouette with a poetic approach to light and materials. Its broad, fan-shaped form creates a striking decorative presence, transforming a functional lighting fixture into an expressive work of art. Reflecting Maurer's experimental approach to lighting, the Uchiwa III blends Japanese-inspired aesthetics with European modernist design. Its sculptural character makes it an eye-catching addition to Mid-Century Modern, eclectic and contemporary interiors, whether displayed as a statement wall light or as part of a curated vintage lighting collection.
