An iconic Proteo halogen table lamp designed by Mario Bertorelle for JM Illuminazione (J.M. – R.D.M.), Italy, during the late 1980s to early 1990s. One of the most distinctive examples of Italian Postmodern lighting, the Proteo is celebrated for its innovative articulated arm composed of overlapping plastic segments, creating an organic, serpentine form that is both sculptural and highly functional. The flexible construction allows the lamp head to be positioned with precision, making it equally suitable as a desk lamp, reading light or striking design object. This example retains its original black finish, beautifully preserved with only minimal signs of age, while the integrated two-stage switch offers adjustable light intensity for both focused task lighting and ambient illumination. Produced by JM Illuminazione, a manufacturer renowned for its experimental use of technical plastics and futuristic designs, the Proteo has become a highly sought-after collector's piece representing the bold creativity of late twentieth-century Italian design. Presented in excellent vintage condition with fully functioning articulation and lighting.
