This rare cantilevered chair, designed by Dutch designer Bas van Pelt (1900–1945) and produced by E.M.S. Overschie, beautifully reflects the influence of Bauhaus modernism on early 20th-century Dutch design. Its sleek tubular metal frame contrasts elegantly with the warmth of the coarsely woven red sisal seat and backrest, while the black lacquered wooden armrests add a refined graphic touch. The result is a perfect harmony of industrial structure and natural materiality. The wicker has been replaced in the past, preserving the chair’s comfort and integrity. In very good vintage condition with light signs of use, this piece represents both functionality and artistic expression, a testament to van Pelt’s sophisticated eye for proportion and texture within the European modernist tradition.
