This original Tomato chair was produced by ASKO and designed by Eero Aarnio in 1971 as a direct development of his iconic Pastil chair. Conceived to be more stable on water, the Tomato chair was shaped using three circles of equal diameter, with two forming the armrests and the third creating the backrest, a composition that inspired its name. The result is a playful yet highly considered design that perfectly reflects Aarnio’s ability to merge organic form, functionality, and ergonomic comfort. Made from fiberglass, the chair is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, while the gel coated surface provides a glossy, vibrant finish typical of early 1970s design. The chair shows visible signs of use, including scratches in the lacquer and a natural patina acquired over decades, which underline its authenticity and history. A rare and collectible example of Finnish Space Age design that remains bold, joyful, and timeless.
