Rare three seater sofa with matching ottoman designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara for the 1957 Cantù exhibition Seconda Mostra Selettiva e Concorso Internazionale del Mobile, where his living room design won the gold medal. Produced in a short lived collaboration between Finnish and Italian craftsmanship, the sofa was made by Paolo Arnaboldi for Esposizione La Permanente Mobili. This exceptional example is likely an early working prototype, distinguished by its unique leather configuration with a full leather seat and striped backrest, reversed in later production models. Crafted from solid wood, leather and refined brass details, the design balances organic warmth with architectural clarity. Showing rich patina and honest wear, with recently made cushions, this sofa stands as a highly collectible masterpiece of mid century design history.
