A beautiful and uncommon set of “Havana” dining chairs by Consorzio Sedie Friuli, produced in Italy during the 1950s. Originating from the Friuli region, an important centre of Italian chair manufacturing during the post-war period, the design is distinguished by its expressive sculptural construction. The shaped blond walnut frames feature striking legs and carefully positioned openings along the sides, through which the papercord is intricately woven, creating an elegant dialogue between structure and craftsmanship. The seats have been professionally re-woven with new papercord, providing a fresh and durable finish while respecting the original technique. In contrast, the walnut has intentionally been left untouched, preserving its rich original patina, tonal variations and signs of age. This combination of renewed weaving and beautifully aged timber gives the chairs exceptional character. A distinctive example of 1950s Italian Mid-Century Modern design, balancing artisanal craftsmanship with sculptural form.
