An exceptional set of eight PJ-SI-25-A Student Chairs by Pierre Jeanneret, designed circa 1958–59 for Panjab University in Chandigarh, India. Each armless chair is constructed from solid teak with woven cane across the seat and backrest, combining durable local materials with Jeanneret’s rigorous Modernist language. The model is distinguished by its compact proportions and characteristic asymmetrical compass-leg construction, developed specifically for student use as part of Chandigarh’s extensive furniture programme. The warm, visibly grained teak retains its authentic vintage character, while the cane has been newly renewed. Presented in very good original condition, this set represents an important example of Jeanneret’s celebrated Indian Modernist furniture.
