This “Office Cane Chair” by Pierre Jeanneret, designed in the 1950s for the city of Chandigarh, India, is an authentic and highly collectible example of mid-century modern design. Constructed from solid teak with a braided cane seat and backrest, the chair features Jeanneret’s signature compass-style double side legs, connected by a crossbar and supporting angular armrests. Originally designed for administrative and university buildings—this example from the Punjab University Zoology Department, it reflects Jeanneret’s fusion of European modernism and Indian craftsmanship. Each piece was handmade using reclaimed local teak, giving every chair unique character and sustainability relevance decades ahead of its time. Restored with care while preserving its natural patina, this chair stands as an icon of design history and architectural heritage.
