An exceptional set of eight Office Cane Chairs by Pierre Jeanneret, created during the 1950s for the modernist city of Chandigarh, India. Each chair is constructed from solid teak with woven cane to the seat and backrest, combining robust local materials with Jeanneret’s unmistakable architectural language. The design is defined by its inclined backrest and distinctive asymmetrical compass-style double side legs, joined by a crosspiece and extending upwards to support the angular armrests. Originally conceived for Chandigarh’s administrative and university interiors, this set has documented provenance from Punjab University’s Zoology Department. The chairs have been restored where necessary, including renewed cane, while preserving the highly desirable original patina of the teak and individual character acquired over decades of use. Presented in very good vintage condition.
