Architectural dining chairs by Belgian designer Jean Batenburg for MI, defined by a rigorous geometric structure and understated Modernist character. The dark-stained wooden frames feature continuous rectangular legs and low stretchers, creating a strong, grounded silhouette. Grey textured upholstery across the seats and backrests provides a softer counterpoint to the linear construction, while exposed wooden corner blocks framing the backrests introduce a subtle yet distinctive decorative detail. Calm, functional and carefully proportioned, the chairs reflect the restrained architectural language associated with Belgian design of the period and belong to the same dining room series as Batenburg’s table for MI. The frames display visible age-related wear, particularly around the edges and corners, with areas of lighter wood showing beneath the dark finish.
