Rare and highly collectible set of six ‘Irma’ dining chairs designed by Achille Castiglioni for Zanotta in 1979, embodying the designer’s masterful balance between engineering, ergonomics and sculptural simplicity. Named after Castiglioni’s wife, Irma Barni, the chairs feature an elegant architectural silhouette defined by black enamelled tubular steel frames paired with separate moulded saddle leather seat and backrest elements. The distinctive angular bend of the backrest creates the model’s iconic profile while subtly supporting the natural posture of the body, offering remarkable comfort within a minimal structure. The warm cognac saddle leather has developed a beautiful aged patina with visible traces of use that enhance the refined contrast against the dark metal frames. Positioned between postmodern Italian design and timeless minimalism, the ‘Irma’ chairs remain among the most sophisticated and sought after works by one of Italy’s most influential designers. Presented in good vintage condition with authentic wear consistent with age and use.
