Designed by Konrad Schaefer and produced by EMU in the 1960s, this rare set of four Space Age dining chairs is a distinctive example of futuristic design from the era. Characterized by an organic and sculptural form, the chairs reflect the optimism and experimentation of 1960s design, with references to contemporary Space Age seating such as Maurice Burke’s Arkana chairs. A notable feature is the open armrest design, which enhances both visual lightness and seating comfort. Each chair is mounted on a swivel base, allowing full 360-degree rotation and adding functional versatility. Upholstered in a vibrant red orange fabric, the chairs offer a striking contrast to the black lacquered structure, creating a bold yet adaptable presence suitable for eclectic, modern, or even antique table settings. Offered in very good vintage condition, the upholstery remains in excellent shape, with only minor traces of use visible on the lacquer consistent with age. The chairs measure approximately 55 cm in width, 55 cm in depth, and 72 cm in height, with a seat height of 47 cm. A highly collectible and visually engaging set of 1960s Space Age dining chairs.
