A striking pair of hand-modelled terracotta sculptures by Sardinian ceramist Saverio Farci, depicting a male and female figure through an expressive combination of folk symbolism, anthropomorphic geometry and intricate decorative detailing. The female figure holds a bouquet of roses across her chest and wears a long robe embellished with a vertical leaf motif and dotted collar. Her male counterpart is decorated with circular medallions and accompanied by two sculpted birds, one resting against his chest and another held in his hand. A bearded face, crown-like headdress and patterned collar lend the figure an almost archaic, ceremonial presence. Both sculptures are finished in a restrained matte palette of ochre, beige and reddish earth tones, emphasizing the texture and individually modelled details of the terracotta. Together, the figures reflect Farci’s distinctive interpretation of Sardinian folk traditions through a Modernist artistic language, resulting in a pair with a powerful, almost totemic character. Presented in good vintage condition. Dimensions: Man H 38 × Ø 12.5 cm; Woman H 36 × Ø 11.5 cm.
