An exceptional pair of life-size bronze male head sculptures, likely dating from the German Bauhaus period of the 1920s and presented on tall brown-grey granite steles. Each bronze displays a richly developed original patina, while the stylized facial features and period hairstyles reflect the sculptural language of early 20th-century German Modernism. Particularly compelling is the provenance accompanying the pair: the sculptures were acquired together with a period photograph album containing original images dating from 1925 to 1928. Photographs document an art academy studio environment and contain several references to renowned German sculptor Georg Kolbe, including an image captioned by the album’s original owner, “Probezeit bei Prof. Georg Kolbe.” This material suggests a possible connection between the unidentified sculptor and Kolbe’s artistic circle or teaching environment, although the precise authorship remains unconfirmed. The two approximately 30 cm high bronze heads are elevated on monumental granite steles measuring 114 cm and 109 cm high, transforming the pair into an imposing sculptural installation. Both the bronzes and stone bases remain undamaged.
