This extremely rare tripod chair, model SE 69, was designed by Egon Eiermann in the 1950s for Wilde & Spieth in Esslingen, Germany, and is among the most elusive seating designs of postwar German modernism. Produced for only one or two years before being withdrawn from the manufacturer’s catalogue, the SE 69 is highly sought after by collectors. The chair features a chrome-plated tubular steel tripod frame with rubber feet, paired with a plywood seat and backrest veneered in walnut, creating a refined balance between industrial structure and warm natural material. Both chairs retain their original paper labels under the seat, confirming authenticity. Documented in key literature on Eiermann’s work, including publications by the Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe and W. Schirmer, this model holds strong historical and design significance. The chairs show signs of age consistent with their rarity and use, and one rubber foot is missing. A museum-worthy design object representing Eiermann’s rigorous functional approach and architectural clarity. Price is per chair.
