This rare Ra lounge chair, designed by Pierre Thielen of Studio Industrial Design for Metz and Co in the Netherlands during the 1960s, is a highly collectible example of European modern design. Metz and Co was a renowned Amsterdam furniture store, celebrated for its progressive vision and its historic collaboration with Gerrit Rietveld, who designed the store’s interior and storefront. The Ra chair is constructed from matt chromed steel and features a bold, architectural structure that was extremely complex to manufacture, making the model costly to produce and scarce even at the time of release. Upholstered in thick, strong original leather, the chair offers both visual impact and lasting durability. The leather shows visible water spots and stains consistent with age and use, all of which contribute to its authentic vintage character and are documented in the images. Offered in good vintage condition, this chair stands as a striking sculptural object and a true collector’s piece, embodying the experimental spirit and technical ambition of 1960s Dutch design.
