An exceptional Large Library Table, model PJ-TAT-08-A, designed by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh, India, circa 1955–56. Created as part of Chandigarh’s extensive institutional furniture programme, the table features a monumental rectangular teak veneer top framed by a substantial solid teak apron. The broad surface rests on two robust angular side supports, creating the strong geometric silhouette and structural clarity characteristic of Jeanneret’s Indian Modernist furniture. Originally conceived for communal reading and working within Chandigarh’s civic and institutional buildings, the model combines functional simplicity with an imposing architectural presence. This example measures approximately H 73 × W 243 × D 121 cm and displays the warm patina and material character that make original Chandigarh pieces so distinctive.
