Iconic FM62 Kubus armchair designed by Radboud van Beekum for Pastoe in the Netherlands in 1981. A landmark of Dutch modern design, the chair reflects van Beekum’s fascination with the geometric purity of Gerrit Rietveld and the principles of the De Stijl movement. Defined by its striking cube-shaped silhouette, the design achieves a remarkable balance between architectural rigor and everyday comfort. The lacquered metal frame forms a precise geometric structure that appears both minimalist and sculptural, while the newly fitted harness leather upholstery introduces warmth, comfort, and tactile richness. Van Beekum sought to create furniture based on abstract formal beauty, resulting in a chair that functions equally well as a practical lounge seat and a collectible design object. The bold cubic composition and industrial materials make the FM62 a standout piece within postmodern and modernist interiors. Presented in very good original condition with minor age-related wear to the lacquered frame, this chair remains one of the most celebrated icons of late twentieth century Dutch design.
