The Model 4043 lamp was designed in 1968 by Filippo Panseca for Kartell in Italy and is a distinctive example of experimental Italian design from the late 1960s. Produced in two sizes, this is the smaller version, conceived for use as both a table lamp and a floor lamp. The design centres around a transparent acrylic sphere divided internally by a mirrored element, creating a dynamic play of reflected light generated by the light source positioned in the base. The sphere rests freely on a polished stainless steel base, and by placing it in different positions, the interaction between light, reflection, and form changes each time. This kinetic quality gives the lamp a sculptural and almost interactive presence. The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing expected signs of use, including visible scratches on one side of the sphere consistent with age and handling. A graphic and concept driven piece that captures Kartell’s innovative approach to materials and form during this period.
