A rare early wall light designed by Gaetano Sciolari for Stilnovo in 1950, this model 2601 exemplifies the transitional moment in post-war Italian lighting design, where technical innovation and sculptural clarity began to merge into a unified modern language.
The design is defined by an adjustable brass arm mounted to the wall via a simple yet robust suspension system. Over time, the brass has developed a rich patina, enhancing the material depth and reinforcing the piece’s historical character. A counterweight, suspended along the arm, ensures balance while also integrating a functional switch, seamlessly combining utility with design intent. The arm can be extended by approximately forty centimetres, allowing for adaptable positioning.
At its core, the lamp features a conical opaline glass diffuser that emits a soft, evenly dispersed glow. This is encased within a cylindrical red shade that introduces a bold chromatic contrast, characteristic of early modern Italian experimentation with colour and form. Three slender brass rods connect the outer shade to the inner glass element, maintaining structural integrity while preserving a refined visual lightness.
Fitted with an E27 socket and bearing the original Stilnovo label, this piece stands as a compelling example of mid-century Italian lighting which is functional, adjustable, and visually expressive, with a strong emphasis on material interplay and mechanical elegance.
