This sculptural Romanus credenza was designed by Luciano Frigerio in Italy during the 1970s and exemplifies his distinctive fusion of architectural strength, fine materials, and expressive surface design. Crafted in richly toned myrtle wood, the front is composed of individually articulated vertical panels, subtly stepped to create a rhythmic, relief-like façade. A diagonal band of gilt brass elements cuts across the surface, introducing movement and visual tension, with small pits and marks that suggest a hand-finished, tactile quality. The gently bowed front softens the monumentality of the form and echoes the flowing motion of the brass detailing. Inside, the credenza offers practical compartments and drawers, carefully arranged to balance function with sculptural integrity. Part of Frigerio’s ambitious Romanus series, the piece reflects Brutalist influence refined through Italian craftsmanship. The credenza is in good condition, partially restored with refreshed wood surfaces and original brass patina intact, showing minor imperfections consistent with age and use.
