Rare large Uchiwa floor lamp by Ingo Maurer for M Design, Germany, 1977. Handmade from bamboo, rice paper, and metal, this striking sculptural light is the most impressive edition of Maurer’s iconic Uchiwa series. The expansive rice paper shade is reinforced with concealed metal wires, allowing the lamp to lean elegantly against the wall, secured with two ropes for stability. Three rear light sockets illuminate the fan-shaped form, creating a warm, diffused glow and casting beautiful shadows through the bamboo structure. Because many Uchiwa lamps have been lost or damaged over time, surviving examples, especially in this large size, are highly collectible.
