A compelling double-sided painting by Dutch artist Arnout Colnot (1887–1983), associated with the Bergen School and believed to date from the 1950s. The principal side depicts a seated woman with her hands folded in her lap, rendered with expressive colour and thick, textured applications of paint. Signed A. Colnot in the lower right corner, the work demonstrates the artist’s figurative approach and expressive handling of form. The verso reveals a second, unsigned composition depicting two boys resting, possibly following a boxing match. This intriguing scene appears unfinished, with visible text and scratched markings that give the surface a raw, experimental quality. While stylistically related, the reverse work cannot be definitively attributed to Colnot. A distinctive example of 20th-century Dutch figurative painting with two contrasting compositions within a single work.
