An impressive architectural centre display cabinet in wood and lacquer, this sculptural piece was likely produced in the first half of the 20th century and attributed to the Fantoni workshop in Gemona. It reflects the workshop’s celebrated approach to blending artisanal craftsmanship with modernist expression in the Friuli region. The design is also sometimes associated with Gildo Valconi, whose work shares a similar architectural sensitivity and material boldness. Constructed from richly toned Caucasian walnut and lacquered wood, the cabinet presents a striking interplay of structure and void. Its composition is defined by flowing, asymmetric shelving supported by alternating tapered struts and bold cylindrical pillars finished in a deep oxblood red lacquer. The walnut shelves feature gently curved fronts and veneered surfaces, adding softness and refinement to the architectural framework. Open on all sides, the piece functions as both a dynamic room divider and a display structure for books and objects, emphasising spatial interaction and versatility.
