An iconic Garden Egg Chair, also known as the Senftenberger Ei, designed by Peter Ghyczy in 1968 and produced in the former East Germany during the early 1970s. A landmark of Space Age and Pop design, the chair features a sculptural white polyurethane shell that opens to reveal its original vibrant red upholstered seat and back cushions. When closed, it transforms into a compact egg-shaped object, reflecting the era's fascination with futuristic forms and innovative plastics. This example is exceptionally well preserved: the original red upholstery remains in near-new condition, while the white shell shows only minimal wear with no cracks or chips. The folding mechanism functions perfectly and closes neatly. A highly collectible example of European Space Age furniture and an important piece of twentieth-century design history.
