An important early pre-Artek example of Alvar Aalto’s Model 915 side table, designed in 1932 for the Paimio Sanatorium in Finland. Produced by Oy Huonekalu- ja Rakennustyötehdas Ab before the establishment of Artek in 1935, the table reflects Aalto’s pioneering experiments with bent wood and his human-centred interpretation of Finnish Functionalism. Two continuous loops of bent laminated birch form the sculptural frame, supporting two moulded birch-plywood trays with raised edges. The flowing construction creates a sense of visual lightness while providing practical two-tier storage. Compact and architectural, Model 915 works beautifully beside lounge seating or as an accent table. A significant example of early Finnish Modernist design, combining technical innovation, organic form and everyday functionality.
