A sculptural Drop Honey vase created by Sem Schanzer for the Antwerp artists’ collective L’Anverre during the 1990s. Crafted from hand-blown crystal glass, the vase is defined by its fluid, swirling silhouette, evoking the appearance of dripping honey or molten sugar. The transparent crystal emphasizes the movement of the form, allowing light to pass through its irregular curves and creating shifting reflections from different viewing angles. The playful design reflects L’Anverre’s recurring fascination with childhood imagery and unconventional organic forms, transforming a traditional vessel into an expressive decorative sculpture. Although multiple Drop Honey vases were produced using the same hand-blown technique, variations inherent to artisanal glassmaking ensure that each example is unique in its exact shape and character. Sem Schanzer, also known as Sem de L’Anverre, founded the interdisciplinary collective in Antwerp in 1986 and developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning glass, sculpture and installation. Signed by the artist, this piece is a collectible example of late 20th-century Belgian studio glass.
