An iconic Chartres wall sconce designed by Willem van Oyen for RAAK Amsterdam and first introduced in 1964. Widely regarded as one of the most important Dutch lighting designs of the mid century period, the Chartres combines artistic craftsmanship with a distinctive Brutalist aesthetic inspired by the celebrated stained glass windows of Chartres Cathedral in France. Each example was individually handcrafted in Van Oyen’s BEVO Glas workshop using hand fused coloured glass fragments set within a minimalist metal framework.
