A striking Brutalist wood sculpture by Dutch artist Koos van Vlijmen, dating from the 1970s and depicting an abstracted female figure. Standing an impressive 95 cm high, the sculpture is defined by strongly carved organic forms, expressive distortions and a powerful vertical silhouette. Van Vlijmen’s artistic language explores the relationship between human, vegetal and mineral forms, reducing the figure through deformation and abstraction while retaining a recognisable figurative presence. The natural character of the wood reinforces the tactile, almost architectural quality of the carving, making the work equally compelling as sculpture and as a statement object within an interior. Van Vlijmen worked across painting, sculpture and graphic art, with colour, form and line playing central roles throughout his practice. A distinctive example of 1970s Dutch sculptural art, particularly suited to Brutalist, Mid-Century Modern and collectible design interiors. Height: 95 cm.
