A striking fireplace screen designed by David Marshall and crafted in Spain during the 1970s. An exceptional example of the designer's sculptural approach to metalwork, the piece combines hand-forged wrought iron with cast brass, reflecting the Brutalist aesthetic for which Marshall became internationally recognised. The freestanding screen is composed of three rigid panels formed by vertical iron bars secured with exposed rivets, creating a subtle interplay of light and shadow. At the centre, a pierced cast brass panel introduces warmth and texture, while tall organic brass finials and sculptural hoof-shaped feet add a distinctive architectural character. More than a functional fireside accessory, this piece serves as a sculptural statement, equally suited to traditional fireplaces and contemporary interiors. The contrasting materials and handcrafted construction exemplify Marshall's fusion of artisanal craftsmanship and modern design. Presented in excellent vintage condition with a beautiful natural patina and light wear consistent with age and use.
