A remarkable antique wooden armchair dating to circa 1880, distinguished by its organically shaped armrests and flowing backrest. The sculptural frame is crafted from black stained wood, whose surface has developed a rich and expressive patina over more than a century. Its curved construction gives the chair an unusually modern appearance despite its 19th-century origins, highlighting an early exploration of organic form in furniture design. The seat has been professionally re-caned using the original traditional technique, preserving the character and craftsmanship of the piece while making it suitable for continued use. The designer and maker remain unknown. Of particular interest is its provenance: the armchair forms part of the chair collection of Delft University of Architecture, adding an important academic and design-history context. Presented in very good antique condition, with age-related patina consistent with its history.
