This rare Akari Series Model H floor lamp, attributed to Isamu Noguchi and produced by Ozeki, is an iconic expression of mid-20th-century Japanese modernism dating to 1951. Part of Noguchi’s celebrated Akari Light Sculptures, the design seamlessly merges art, craft, and function, transforming illumination into a poetic object. Handcrafted in Japan, the lamp is made using traditional washi paper formed over a delicate bamboo framework, creating a soft, atmospheric glow that defines Noguchi’s timeless aesthetic. Inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns, Akari lights were conceived as “light sculptures,” emphasizing simplicity, balance, and harmony between natural materials and modern form.
This example is offered in vintage condition consistent with age, showing gentle wear and patina that enhance its authenticity while maintaining structural integrity. Its sculptural presence and warm light make it equally compelling as a functional lamp or a collectible design object. A highly sought-after piece for discerning collectors, this Akari lamp embodies the enduring legacy of Isamu Noguchi’s cross-cultural vision.
