The Akari 10DA Floor Lamp by Isamu Noguchi, first designed in 1951, is a landmark of modern lighting and sculptural design. Part of Noguchi’s celebrated Akari Light Sculptures series, this lamp was produced in Japan in collaboration with traditional craftsmen at the Ozeki workshop. Constructed from handmade washi paper stretched over a bamboo rib structure, the piece embodies Noguchi’s philosophy of blending modernist form with centuries-old Japanese craft. The softly contoured silhouette diffuses light into a warm, atmospheric glow, creating an intimate balance between illumination and sculpture. Rooted in mid-20th-century modernism, the Akari series redefined lighting as art, bridging Eastern tradition and Western abstraction.
