Pair of rare “Basilian 1” rattan tables designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for B&B Italia in the 1970s. Created in 1974 and produced from 1975, this innovative series explored rattan as an engineered, modular system—an unusual approach for the period. The tables feature rectilinear rattan panels, tight cord bindings, and original smoked glass tops, forming calm architectural cubes suitable as coffee or large side tables. Frames have been professionally refinished, showing light patina consistent with age, and the glass tops each have a small corner chip. A historically significant design program that merges craftsmanship, industrial logic, and refined Italian aesthetics.
