This rare large Africa Series dining table was designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, the luxury division of B&B Italia, during the 1970s. An iconic example of Italian modernist furniture, the table combines monumental proportions with exceptional material craftsmanship. Its expansive oval top features richly figured burlwood veneer framed by layered solid wood edging and finished in high-gloss lacquer, enhancing the depth and dramatic natural grain. Two substantial sculptural plinth bases in contrasting woods support the tabletop and create the collection's distinctive architectural, floating presence. Designed as a commanding centerpiece for a large dining room, boardroom or executive interior, the table reflects the Scarpas' approach to furniture as architecture. Very good original vintage condition with light age-appropriate wear.
